The 99problems guild was created on the 3rd of February 2006 with the purpose to be the new Horde PvE guild on the Doomhammer server, since the Holker and Cyzo were fed up with the politics of the current Horde PvE guilds at the moment. Because of lack of members we started joining raids of the Fo Shizzle guild led by Mosfet, which was organising Horde Open Raids; a total new concept of raiding at the time. The cooperation of these 2 guilds turned out to be successful and because the Guild Master of Fo Shizzle was busy with raiding with one of his Alliance characters, the Fo Shizzle guild merged with the 99problems guild and 99problems took full responsibility over the Horde Open Raids as well.
If you are wondering what Horde Open Raids were; Horde Open Raids were raids in 40man instances where we invite people outside the 99problems guild into our raids. This was perfect for small "mate-guilds", who didn't have time to set up, organise raids/dkp/strategies/recruitment/etc. and still be able to see and enjoy 40man raiding content and keep their own small social guild together. The Horde Open Raids were actually great fun, because there were always new people in the raid and there was always something happening (good and bad), making raiding a lot less dull and very interesting even though we were doing the same raid bosses every week over and over again.
The 99problems Horde Open Raids managed to complete the 40man Molten Core and Onyxia's Lair instances, face the end boss of the 40man Black Wing Layer instance (so almost completed that instance), the first boss of the 40man Ahn'Qiraj instance and fight the mobs of the old 40man Naxxramas instance. The first expansion of World of Warcraft; The Burning Crusade meant the end of 40man raids. The 99problems tried to continue with 25man Horde Open Raids, but that turned unsuccessful, because of simply to few open raiding spots within the raids. Before the expansion 99problems was already doing 20man 'closed'-raids successfully. There were some plans of making a 25man Horde Open Raid next to our 99problems 25man 'closed' raids, but this was to time consuming, simply not doable and there seemed to be no interest for Open Raids either from the outside.
The 'closed' raids of 99problems in The Burning Crusade expansion started of good, we were the 5th guild on the Doomhammer server to kill the first 25man raiding boss, which was a great achievement indeed. But we couldn't keep up with the raid progress of other raiding-guilds and therefore it felt like we were not cutting it/slacking and in the summer of 2007 (which we refer as the emo-bomb period, because it felt like an emo-bomb had dropped on our guild) 99problems decided to stop existing and join the oldest (and inspirational) guild of Doomhammer; The Brotherhood, which was suffering of a similar emo-bomb on their guild at the time by the way. This guild merge was unfortunately short lived (I do not know why honestly, I guess it just didn't feel right for the 99ers) and most 99ers went back to the good old and safe 99problems guild.
At the end of 2007 Holker had to stop his leadership for personal reasons (new job + emigration in real life) and 2008 started of with a new Guildmaster; Zorth. This new Guildmaster had to basically start all over again from scratch with a broken 99problems guild, many good and loyal guildies had left the 99problems guild during the emo-bomb period and The Brotherhood merge and joined other raiding guilds, transferred server or simply stopped playing. But 99problems started slowly off again with 10man raids and slowly build up to 25man raids and after loads of hard and good work they managed to face and actual kill the end boss Illidan Stormrage!
And now the second expansion of World of Warcraft: The Wrath of the Lich King, has arrived. The 99problems guild is still here in the year 2009 and still going strong. Why is this guild so special? One of the former officers named our guild the guild of misfits, because we all have our own problems and issues. I think it is there where our strength lies. We do not pretend to be the perfect guild, but we must be doing something right that makes us such a good, tight, reliable and fun group.
To join the 99problems guild, you need to be level 80 and join one of our raids first. That way you can see what raiding with us is like and we can see how raiding with you is like. We expect you to be most of all a team player, who reads Boss-Strategies before a raid, prepares himself by bringing the required Talents, Potions, Elixirs, Flasks, etc. and be on time for invites (usually at 19:30 CET, the raids end usually at 23:30 CET). Also select the talent points, glyphs, items (weapon, armor, jewellery), enchants and attitude in a way that will benefit the raid most.
A couple of add-ons are required for raiding as well, so install the following add-ons too please:
